In the West, within the Warrior’s Journey, we embody and are protected by Jaguar, in Quechua known as Otorongo. In this direction, we face our fears, doing deep shadow work, thus transmuting these darker aspects into unconditional love. Otorongo supports us in this work, holding our backs while we work with the fire of our transmutation. Palo Santo, the core essential oil in this synergy, works in much the same way, supporting us as we dive deeply into our shadow. Palo Santo needs to naturally fall and age on the forest floor for 5-8 years before the rich aromatics of the sacred wood are potentized. It has been used for millennia by indigenous people to remove negativity and obstacles, has antidepressant and anti-microbial benefits, and supports people struggling with anxiety and fear. It invites helping spirits, encouraging us to accept, allow and surrender, thus healing our disowned part and remembering who we are. It is the perfect core essential oil for this synergy. The two other ingredients in Otorongo are Rosemary and Cinnamon leaf. I chose Rosemary for its energetics, to invoke protection, as well as its rich history as the herb of remembrance. Being a needle (leaf), it also adds some ‘teeth’ to the synergy, and offers a sharp camphoraceous aroma. Cinnamon also offers protection, purity and unconditional love. How perfect is that!
